Pfeiffer Runs First Race

Misenheimer, NC – On Saturday, the Pfeiffer men’s and women's cross country teams competed at the Pre-Regional Invitational race hosted by Wingate University. Despite being plagued with injuries, the runners turned out strong performances and look forward for continued improvement.

The women competed in the 6 kilometer race. A number of injuries left the women’s team shorthanded for the weekend’s meet. The Falcons were led by Stephanie Rynas (Morehead City, NC) who took 29th place with a time of 26:47. Following in 58th place was twin sister Samantha Rynas (Morehead City, NC) with a time of 27:59. Making her college debut was freshman Chessa Parisi (Harrisburg, NC) who opened the season with 28:09 which was good for 61st place. Senior Tiera Bristol (Morganton, NC) also ran her first collegiate race with a 40:40 and placed 133rd.

Because the women only had four racers today, they didn't score for the meet. After the meet Coach Nolt commented on the results, "I am really happy with where Sam and Stephanie are. Both women ran personal records last season and they are already ahead of where they were last season running like this. Once we get everyone back out there and get a couple races experiences, things will be looking pretty good.”

The men’s team was led by strong performances by senior AJ Pearson (Rockwell, NC) and freshman Cameron Auten (Indian Trail, NC). As with the women, the men’s team has been plagued by early season injuries. They are currently without top returner, Matt Tyndall (Newport, NC). Coach Nolt commented, "Looking at our guys today, half of everyone out there has just gotten back off some sort of injury or another. Hopefully now that we have most everybody back we can start to get back where we need to be.” Coach Nolt felt especially good about Pfeiffer’s new runners. “I was really impressed with freshmen Cameron Auten and Deandre Crayton (Houston, TX). For a lot of our guys this acted as a training run because they haven't had that many days of practice in.”

Pfeiffer men’s and women’s cross country team competes next at the Hagan Stone Invitational in Greensboro on October 27.
