Reid advances to National Championship
May 6, 2009
Howey-in-the-Hills, FL – Charlene Reid (Ballymoney, Ireland) led the Pfeiffer women’s golf team by shooting eight over par throughout three days of the NCAA women’s golf regional tournament to qualify for the NCAA National Championships. Reid carded a 224 (73-75-76) to be the lowest scorer among the top three individuals not with a team that advance to the championships. Reid is a 2009 Conference Carolinas first team All-Conference selection and All-Tournament team member. She will be joined by Catawba College’s Kelsey Babos (78-73-75=226) and Florida Tech’s Daniela Iacobelli (78-77-72=227) as individual competitors.
Nova Southeastern University (912), Florida Southern (915), and Rollins College (918) took the top three spots to advance to the national championships.
Conference Carolinas 2009 first team All-Conference and All-Tournament selection Brittany Beltran (Sacramento, CA) ended her college career tied for 21st place after marking a 240 (82-79-79). Sophomore Jackie McMenimon (Easton, MA) landed in 43rd place with a 266 (92-85-89), while freshman Elizabeth Johnson (Asheboro, NC) carded a 280 (90-94-96) to finish in 47th place. Unfortunate circumstances involving the signing of a score card led to the disqualification of freshman Chelsea Demers (Wilton, NH) in the second round.
The 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships will be held May 13-16, at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition.
