Michel tabbed as new assistant coach

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University athletic director Bobby Stewart along with women’s soccer head coach Elijah Denton announced today the addition of Katie Michel as the new assistant coach for Lady Falcons soccer.
Michel, a 2008 graduate of Appalachian State University enjoyed a winning tradition during her four-year career from 2003-2007. She earned the Southern Conference commissioners medal in 2007 and was a member of the 2006-‘07 SoCon Academic Honor Roll. Michel played both goalkeeper and defense during her career at ASU. After completing an internship in the university’s Sports Marketing Department, Michel graduated with degrees in Commercial Recreation/Tourism and Public Relations.
Following her collegiate soccer career with the Mountaineers, Michel went on to assist the varsity women's soccer team at Watauga High School. Before moving to Pfeiffer, Michel coached in the select program of the High Country Soccer Association in Boone, NC.
A native of Norcross, GA, Michel graduated from Wesleyan High School where she helped secure a Regional Championship and Elite Eight berth as a member of the 2002 Lady Wolves soccer team. She played club soccer in the Norcross Soccer Association for former Olympic Development Program coach Mike Morgan. Michel began coaching by assisting with younger select teams while still in high school.
“I am very excited to be joining the Pfeiffer community,” said Michel. “I’m very grateful to Elijah Denton and Bobby Stewart for giving me this opportunity and am looking forward towards a successful season with Elijah and this very talented group of girls.”
“I am excited about having Katie on board with us this coming year” stated Denton. “She brings with her the experience of playing at a high level of competition and knows what it takes to be successful at that level.”
The Lady Falcons, fresh off of last year’s Conference Carolinas tournament championship and berth into the NCAA II postseason, will open up the 2009 campaign with a home match at 4:00 p.m. against Catawba College. Pfeiffer will open up Conference Carolinas play two weeks later in Misenheimer against the Crusaders from Belmont Abbey. Game time is also set at 4:00 p.m.
