PU receives All-Southeast Region honors

Three Lady Falcons were recently named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/ Adidas NCAA Division II Women’s All-Southeast Region team.  Senior defender Katie Franca (Boise, ID) and junior forward Kirsten Bartsch (Leesburg, VA) were selected for 1st team honors, while junior midfielder Megan Blevins (Copley, OH) was chosen for 2nd team honors. All three women helped lead the Lady Falcons to a win in the Conference Carolinas championship game and an appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Franca (Boise, ID) tallied two goals and one assist this season.  Franca, a team captain, led the Falcon back line in all of Pfeiffer’s 23 games, playing almost every minute.  Franca is a 2008 2nd team All-Conference selection. She was also honored as the 2008 Conference Carolinas All-Tournament MVP.

Bartsch led Pfeiffer in points this season with a total of 34.  She scored 14 goals (two game winners) and notched six assists in 23 games.  She led Conference Carolinas in points and points per game.  She tied for first in goals and took second in goals per game.  She also tied for fifth in shots.  Bartsch was a 2008 All-Conference selection.

Blevins notched four goals (two game winners) and nine assists this season for the Falcons (17 points).  She was named a 2008 1st team All-Conference selection and led Conference Carolinas in assists.   Blevins placed second in assists per game and ranked in the top ten for most points in the conference.  She was also selected for the Conference Carolinas All-Tournament team.                

The Lady Falcons also received the NSCAA Team Academic Award.  A total of 370 soccer teams (107 men, 263 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 academic year.  The Lady Falcons garnered this award by earning a combined grade point average of 3.17.
