Softball wins first tourney game, 8-0

Hartsville, SC The Pfeiffer University Falcons won their first game of the Conference Carolinas softball tournament over the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College on Friday afternoon. The Falcons shut out the Crusaders 8-0 to move to an overall record of 26-15.

The Falcons scored one run in both the first and second innings, and then moved ahead to a 6-0 lead after scoring four runs in the third inning. The Falcons finished the game in five innings by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the game 8-0. The Falcons marked 10 hits in the game, while the Abbey managed just one.

Brittany Waldon (Port Orchard, WA) led the Falcons at the plate by going 3-3 with 3 RBI and one run scored. Stephanie Bethea (Greensboro, NC) was 2-3 with 2 RBI. All-Conference outfielder Ranzy York (Milton-Freewater, OR) was 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

All-Conference pitcher Allison Braswell (Asheboro, NC) threw five innings in the win. She gave up only one hit and had one strike out in 17 batters faced.

Pfeiffer will return to the diamond on Saturday at 4:30 PM for their second game of the tournament.
