Falcon tennis defeats Royals

Misenheimer, NC - The Pfeiffer University Falcons won a dual match over the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte in Conference Carolinas tennis action on Thursday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center.  The Pfeiffer women earned a big 6-3 win and improve to 8-10 on the season, while the men won 5-4 and also improve to 8-10 overall.

The Pfeiffer women started with two victories in doubles play.  Patty Dominguez (Caracas, Venezuela) and Brittany Dickens (Wake Forest, NC) won 8-4 for the Falcons. Catie Thomas (Asheboro, NC) and Amanda Huffaker (Maryville, TN) added an 8-1 win in the third match.

Dominguez, Maddy Billeter (Boca Raton, FL), Huffaker, and Dickens all earned wins in singles play.  Dominguez won 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 at number one, while Billeter won by a score of 6-3, 6-1 at number four.  Huffaker beat her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at number five and Dickens added a win at number six 6-1, 6-0.

Philip Lawson (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Johan deWit (Windhoek, Namibia) took the men’s only doubles win 9-7 in the first match of the day.  The Falcons then proceeded to win four matches in singles play.  Lawson won 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 at number one.  DeWit added another win at number three 6-1, 6-0. AJ Flores (Atlanta, GA) took his match 6-3, 6-4 at number four, while Frank Pouchet (Miami, FL) added Pfeiffer’s last win 6-2, 6-3 at number five.

The Falcons return to the courts on Saturday as they play host to Limestone.
