DUE WEST, S.C. – Pfeiffer University scored two second half goals to push past Erskine, 2-1, in women's college soccer action Saturday afternoon at Huggins Field. With the win, the Lady Falcons jump to 5-3-3 overall and 2-1-2 in Conference Carolinas play. The Flying Fleet drop to 3-6, 3-3.
After a sluggish 1st half that saw only two shots on goal, both by the Falcons, and a 0-0 tie, Pfeiffer got on the board first at 50:05 when Lindsay McQuade gathered an Ashleigh Rhoads corner kick in the box and rifled it home.
Pfeiffer struck again five minutes later at 55:12 when the Falcons goalie Suzie Hinman bombed a punt three quarters of the field and teammate Kirsten Bartsch outran the Fleet defenders for the ball, then did a spin move in the box before slamming the ball past Erskine goalie Si'Ara Washington (Mt. Pleasant, SC).
Pfeiffer's 2-0 lead was cut in half at 70:58 when Erskine freshman Molly Harpe (Anderson, SC) fired from the left wing from 25 yards out to make it 2-1. The Fleet were unable to put any serious threats on the Falcons after that.
The Lady Falcons soccer team gets back to action on Tuesday afternoon hosting the Barton Bulldogs in a Conference Carolinas match at 2:00 p.m.
