Both Swim Teams Fall at Catawba

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Both Pfeiffer University swim teams dropped decisions last Saturday in a dual meet at Catawba College. The Lady Falcons fell victim to the Catawba Indians 128-56 while the men fell 106-96 in the last race of the day. Catawba out-touched the Falcons by .06 seconds in the 200 free relay to secure the meet win.

Samantha Maness (Conway, SC) and Julianna Prim (Yadkinville, NC) started the day off with individual wins in the 1000 and 200 freestyle swims. Maness clocked in with a time 10-seconds better than her nearest competitor at 11:17.11. Prim touched in the 200 free with a first-place time of 1:54.14. Prim against finished first in the 100 free concluding in 53.39.

In the men’s event, the Falcons got on the board early sweeping the points in the 200 medley relay. The “A” team of Kevin Parks (Mesa, AZ), David Angell (Parker, CO), George Moreno (Bluffton, SC) and Edwin Torres (North Miami, FL) finished with a time of 1:42.55. The Falcons “B” relay of Matt Money (East Bend, NC), David Haynes (Cornelius, NC), Nick Seramone (Wilmington, DE) and Brad Baggett (Coolidge, GA) came in second at 1:56.45. Angell scored two individual event wins in the 200 medley (2:04.54) and 50-yard breaststroke (28.27). Parks (50 backstroke/26.19) and Moreno (50 free/22.54) picked up the other individual wins for the Falcons.

Both the men’s and women’s swim team will dive back into action this weekend at the Wingate Invitational. The Saturday/Sunday, two-day meet will take place at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte.
