Cox Scores 20; Knight Posts Another Double-Double as Women's Basketball Rolls Converse 79-49

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University freshman Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) scored a game-high 20 points leading the Lady Falcons to a 79-49 victory over the visiting Converse Valkyries in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball on Tuesday night in the Merner Gym. Reigning conference player of the week Devona Knight (Woodbridge, VA) registered her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Pfeiffer improves to 2-3 overall, 2-0 in league play while the Valkyries fall to 0-5, 0-2.

Cox tallied 13 of her 20 points in the first-half after scoring the game’s first six points. A layup by Cox five minutes in gave the Lady Falcons a quick 14-4 advantage, before a Knight layup put Pfeiffer up 18 with 7:21 remaining in the first half. After Knight’s bucket, the hosts went cold for a little over three minutes as Chelsea McDougle (Charlotte, NC) knocked down a jumper in a brief 6-0 Valkyries run. Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) would knock down a pair of late free throws while teammate Celeste Caudill (Sparta, NC) scored her first half points on a jumper leading the Lady Falcons to a 43-23 lead at the break.

Pfeiffer opened up the second half with a 9-0 run, thanks in part to Cox’s seven points, which included her only three-pointer of the night. Amber Mooney (Tallahassee, FL) dropped in a couple of free throws for Converse to snap the Pfeiffer run at the 15:43 mark. Minutes later, sophomore Jamila Harris (Danville, VA) scored four-straight Lady Falcon points to give the hosts their largest lead of the night at 69-34. Ashley Arff (Fox Lake, IL) would toss in a pair of threes with 90 seconds remaining before Knight concluded the scoring with a late jumper.

In addition to Cox and Knight, Harris saw her point total finish at 13 on the night followed closely by Charlotte Fuller’s (Moorestown, NJ) 12. Arff led the Valkyries with 13 while Alaina Smith (Atlanta, GA) finished with 11. Pfeiffer held a 50-41 advantage on the boards while shooting 46.8% from the floor.

Pfeiffer will take to the home court next Saturday, December 12 in a non-conference tilt with Lenoir-Rhyne University. Tip-off between the Lady Falcons and Bears will be at 7:00 p.m.
