Men's Basketball Ranks #1 Statistically in Two National Categories; Appear Seven Times in Nation's Top-10

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Fresh off of the winter break and heading back into Conference Carolinas play, the Pfeiffer University menís basketball team currently ranks first in a pair of categories in the latest NCAA II National Rankings through January 3rd. Out of 270 teams, the Falcons lead the country in scoring offense and steals per game, ranking in the top-10 in seven total categories. Individually, Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC) and Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) also appear in the top-10.

Head coach Dave Davis has the Falcons scoring 108 points per game which leads the country by over three points. Pfeiffer has eclipsed the century mark in each of its last three games, all three wins, scoring the fourth most points in a game with 137 at Washington Adventist and in a tie for ninth with 124 tossed in against Lees-McRae.

The Falcons also lead the nation in steals per game averaging 15.3 thefts a contest. Other top-10 team rankings see the Falcons rank fifth in three-pointers per game at 10.6, sixth in three-point percentage at 44.8%, sixth in assists per game at 20.4 and sixth in turnover margin at 7.0.

Individually, Woods stands sixth in the country in points per game averaging 23.9 points, crossing the 30-point plateau twice this season. Woods scored a career-high 34 points against USC-Aiken back in November while scoring an even 30 against Washington Adventist this past Sunday. Pettiway, ranking seventh in three-point percentage, has drained 53.3% of his long-range shots, converting a season-high eight three-balls against Lees-McRae in late November.

Woods, Pettiway and the rest of the Falcons get back to hardwood action on Thursday night in their first Conference Carolinas road contest at Mount Olive. Pfeiffer returns to the Merner Gym for a pair of conference tilts Saturday against Belmont Abbey and Monday against Coker. Both tip-offs are set for 7:30 p.m.
