DUE WEST, SC – Pfeiffer University, down by 19 at the half to the conference’s stingiest defense with a season-low 21 first half points on 6 of 21 shooting, rallied and completed a second half comeback scoring a 78-70 victory over Erskine on Thursday night.  Pfeiffer found their shooting touch in the second half, nailing 20 of 32 from the floor (62.5%) to slip past the Fleet with a 78 to 70 win.

The Fleet (8-13, 6-9) had little trouble breaking the Pfeiffer (14-7, 10-5) full-court press in the first half.  The Fleet scored forty first half points and only had 6 turnovers.  Meanwhile, the Falcons had difficulty penetrating the lane against the swarming Erskine defense and turned the ball over fourteen times.  Erskine capitalized on the Falcon miscues by scoring 13 points.  The Fleet cruised into halftime leading 40 to 21.

Also, in the first half, Brandon Wright scored his 2,000 career point becoming the first Erskine men’s basketball player to achieve this milestone.  He now has 2,012 points in his career.
The second half proved to be much different for both teams.  Pfeiffer’s pressure defense forced fourteen Fleet turnovers in the second half contributing to 21 points.  Furthermore, after only hitting two three-point shots in the first half, the Falcons were 8 of 17 in the second half while the Fleet failed to make a three-point basket, missing all eight attempts.
The Fleet were led by Brandon Wright with a game-high 24 points and freshman Chris Gore with a season-best 15 points and 7 rebounds.  Pfeiffer had four players reach double-figures with Chris Woods leading the way with 17 points, Davon Gilliard and James Crowder each had 15 points, and Jeff Pettiway contributed 14 points.
Pfeiffer returns to the court on Saturday traveling south to Belmont Abbey. The Falcons and Crusaders will tip at 7:30 p.m.
