Women's Tennis Wins Second-Straight Match 5-4; Haefele Earns Decisive Point Against USC-Aiken

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – For the second consecutive match in a 4-4 match, Pfeiffer University got a three-set singles win to earn a 5-4 match victory over USC-Aiken in women’s tennis action on Wednesday at the Knapp Tennis Center. Freshman Chelsi Haefele took the final set 6-4 to earn the personal and team victory. The Lady Falcons improve to 2-0 on the season while the Lady Pacers suffer their first loss dipping to 2-1.
Haefele, battling with the Lady Pacers Melanie Schnieder in the number six singles position, won the first set 6-4 before dropping the middle set 5-7. Playing well into the night with temperatures hovering just above the freezing mark, Haefele up 4-1, fought off a comeback by Schnieder holding on for a 6-4 win.
Other singles action saw Alena Krutkina take a win at #1 for Pfeiffer with a one and one straight-sets victory over Mathilde Grenet. Patty Dominguez, playing #2, went four and one over USCA’s Stephanie Humphrey. Maria Angel, Brittany Telford and Bridgette Gale all earned wins in straight-sets for the Lady Pacers setting up the deciding #6 singles match.
Pfeiffer started the day taking two of three doubles match in the number one and three positions. Krutkina and Dominguez took an 8-6 decision in the first spot over Grenet and Brittany of USC-Aiken. Haefele, along with reigning conference player of the week Catie Thomas, scored an 8-5 win at #3.
The Lady Falcons will remain at home for a match with Catawba next Tuesday, February 23rd. Start time against the Indians is set for 3:00 p.m.
