Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Junior guard Domonique China (Durham, NC) posted a triple-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists leading Pfeiffer University past St. Andrews 81-64 in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action on Saturday night. The win snaps a five-game skid for the Lady Falcons as they improve to 12-13 overall, 12-8 in league play. St. Andrews, dressing just five players hung tough, but sees their mark fall to 3-20, 1-18.

Pfeiffer started the night on a 10-0 run thanks in part to a pair of baskets by Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA). Megan Lee’s (Cillicothe, OH) bucket put the Knights on the board with a jumper at 17:11 before a Jacquese Smith (Raleigh, NC) steal and lay in cut the deficit down to four. Kayla Hay (Hanover, IN) trimmed the lead down to one with 13:53 to go before Pfeiffer jumped out on a 9-2 run. Shelley Reese (Brown Summit, NC) knocked down a three and jumper sparking the streak.

Another basket by Reese at the 4:07 mark put the Lady Falcons up 13, 30-17, as St. Andrews was able to cut the lead back to single-digits with under a minute to play. Lee would hit another jumper with 53 ticks left as Pfeiffer would take a 34-26 lead into the half.

The Knights would come out and hit several early shots in the second half to make it a five point contest on another toss in by Lee at the 16:23 mark. A three-point play by Smith would slice the Pfeiffer lead down to three at 12:15 before a Sylvee Ubiera (Westport, MA) field goal tied the contest 50-50 with 9:33 to play.

A 12-0 run then led the Lady Falcons to a 62-50 lead on a China bucket with 5:40 remaining. Brittany Roberts (Concord, NC) would drain on three to bring the Knights to within a half-dozen at the 3:48 mark but another 13-3 run by the hosts sealed the deal with 52 seconds remaining.

Needing one point, board and assist inside the final 23 seconds for the triple-double, China pulled down the tenth rebound on a missed three by Roberts, made two late free throws and assisted on Charlotte Fuller’s (Moorestown, NJ) with eight seconds left.

Hay led all scorers with 23 points on the night. Lee tallied 18 while Smith finished with 14 to pace the Knights. Jamila Harris (Danville, VA) notched a team-high 18 for the Lady Falcons. Harvey finished with 14, China 13, Reese and Devona Knight (Woodbridge, VA) each had 11.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday traveling to Hartsville, SC for a matchup with Coker at 5:30 p.m.
