Men's Tennis Rolls Newberry 8-1; Opens Conference Play on Saturday

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The men’s tennis team at Pfeiffer University recorded an 8-1 victory over Newberry College on Friday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center. Pfeiffer won all three doubles contests en route to the win, improving to 3-1 on the year. Newberry plummets to 1-4.
Michael Worthington and Ryan Kerr secured the first point for the Falcons with an 8-1 win at number three doubles. Philip Lawson and Johan de Wit followed with an 8-4 victory at #1 in front of Andrea Cazzaro’s and Frank Pouchet’s 8-6 win in the middle.
Cazzaro then cruised 6-1, 6-3 at #1 singles while Lawson went two and five at number two. Pfeiffer picked up more points at three and four with de Wit going 6-0, 6-4 and Sid Kaushik needing a third-set played to a tiebreaker 2-6, 7-5, (10-7). Kerr secured the final point 6-1, 6-0 cruising in the fifth spot while Newberry’s Christian Ranguelov picked up the visitors only point with a two and three win playing in the number six spot.
Pfeiffer travels to Anderson on Saturday for their first Conference Carolinas match of the season. Saturday’s tilt will begin at 1:00 p.m.
