MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Jessica Kennedy notched a hat trick as the Lady Falcons flew past the Bloomsburg Huskies 7-5 in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. Pfeiffer improves to 6-1 overall while the Huskies suffer their first loss dropping to 2-1.

Bloomsburg tallied the first two goals of the contest at 23:06 and 19:28 to grab an early 2-0 advantage. Samantha Mazzie (Barto, PA) found Kim Springman (Downingtown, PA) in front of the net for the first strike, while Samantha King (Elkton, MD) scored unassisted three and a half minutes later.

The Lady Falcons bounced back with a pair of man-up goals to square the contest at two as Kennedy registered her first from Tory Binder (Woodstock, MD) before Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) assisted on the game-tying goal by Liz Melesh (Annapolis, MD). Kennedy hit again with 2:23 to go in the half, in front of Bloomsburg’s Amber Shifflett (Pasadena, MD), before Springman found the back of the net with seven seconds left in the frame, knotting the contest at 4-4 just before the intermission.

To start the second half, Kennedy put home the only free position tally of the day to send the Lady Falcons up 5-4 at the 25:30 point of the second.
Allie Gamble (Easton, MD) scored six minutes later on a helper from Alex Cook (Commack, NY) in front of Kennedy assisting on a Binder score. To avoid the second half blanking, King notched her second of the day from Allie Kakareka (Royersford, PA).

On defense, Amanda Smith (Leesburg, VA) helped the Lady Falcons secure the win with six groundballs and five caused turnovers. Huskies goalkeeper Shelby Iezzi (Pottstown, PA) recorded eight saves in net to go along with her eight groundballs.

Pfeiffer will have a few days off before heading down to Florida for a pair of contest. The Lady Falcons will take on Franklin Pierce on Thursday before Rollins on Saturday. Both contests will be played in Winter Park, FL at Rollins College.
