March 23, 2010
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – After four weeks of just missing out of being in the top-10 of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, Pfeiffer University’s women’s lacrosse team comes in to week five and today’s 4:00 p.m. match against Southern New Hampshire ranked #10 in the country. In addition to the top-10 ranking, freshman attacker Allie Gamble (Easton, MD) has been named Conference Carolinas player of the week.
Despite a 1-1 week with a win against Franklin Pierce and 17-16 loss to Rollins, the Lady Falcons jumped in the latest poll with a 7-2 record on the season. Also in the poll is conference rival Limestone standing #4 while Sunday’s opponent, C.W. Post is third. Pfeiffer and C.W. Post will play a neutral site contest in Severna Park, MD.
Gamble earns player of the week honors for the first time in her short college career helping Pfeiffer to that 1-1 week with nine total goals firing 11 of her 12 total shots on net. Playing a pair of matches in Florida, Gamble threw in two goals against Franklin Pierce adding a groundball, caused turnover and draw control. Both of her shots taken were on net.
Against host Rollins, Gamble single-handedly kept the Lady Falcons in it with a career-high seven goals on 9-of-10 shots on goal adding another draw control. Gamble added two free position goals, in two attempts. For the season, Gamble leads the squad with 27 goals with 38 of her 44 total shots on cage (.864), also a team-high.
