Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Hargett Invitational Led by Louth's 79-75

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Lenoir-Rhyne University men’s golf claimed back-to-back 2010 team titles Tuesday, bringing home the championship trophy in the 10th annual J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation. The Bears won the Tusculum Invitational March 6-7 in Greeneville, Tenn.

Lenoir-Rhyne carded Tuesday’s best round with a 303 to finish at 604. The Bears were one stroke behind Monday’s co-leaders Queens University of Charlotte and Lincoln Memorial University entering the final round. LMU finished second (615), while the Royals claimed third (620). Eight schools and nine teams competed in this year’s event.

The host Wingate University Gold team made a big move Tuesday, posting a 306 to record a two-day total of 622 and finish fourth. The Bulldogs’ second-day team score was only three shots behind the victorious LRU Bears on the Tuesday charts.

Lenoir-Rhyne had three student-athletes earn All-Tournament honors, led by freshman brothers Jason and Jack Garrett (Durham, N.C.), who finished second (146) and fourth (149), respectively. Jason Garrett shot 75 Tuesday and 71 Monday. He was the first-round leader. Jack Garrett shared Tuesday’s best round, as he carded a 71 to go with his Monday 78.

Bear freshman Brandon Squier (Advance, N.C.) claimed fifth place at 151 (75-76) to join the Garrett brothers on the tourney honor squad. Queens freshman Pureum Lee (North Vancouver, B.C., Canada) was the medalist, as he matched Jason Garrett with a second-day 71. Lee won by two strokes with his even-par 144. Lincoln Memorial freshman Jamie Chapman (Sussex, England) rounded out the all-tourney team with his third-place showing (148).

On the team charts, Pfeiffer University finished fifth, led by Tyson Louth's 154 (79-75), with a 623. Parker Robertson finished 14th with a 156 (79-77) while Laurence Noott concluded with a 157 (75-82). Mount Olive College (624), Anderson (S.C.) University (631), Wingate Blue (637) and Catawba “B” (650) occupied spots six through nine.
