Men's Tennis Falls 7-2 at #34 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The No. 34-ranked Limestone College men’s tennis team defeated Pfeiffer University 7-2 in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday afternoon at the Emmie Evans Rector Tennis Center. The Saints improve to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the league as the Falcons even their overall record to 6-6 (1-4 league).

Limestone won two of the three doubles matches. The Saints’ Miguel Lopez Zuniga (Guanajuato, Mexico) and Henrik Nordquist (Danderyd, Stockholm, Sweden) picked up an easy 8-2 win at the No. 2 flight as Paulo Avila (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Mike Stephenson (Bristol, England) also won 8-2 at the No. 3 match.

Lopez Zuniga picked up a 6-3, 7-5 victory at the top singles contest against Philip Lawson. Christian Warnholtz (Queretaro, Mexico) lost the first set 0-6 at the No. 3 match to Sid Kaushik, but battled back to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-2. Avila and Nordquist picked up 6-2, 6-2 victories at the No. 4 and No. 5 flights, respectively. Jordan Vicain (Allen, Texas) won at the No. 6 match by the score of 6-3, 6-2, against Michael Worthington.

Pfeiffer’s two victories came at the No. 2 singles flight as Johan de Wit defeated Stephenson 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Lawson and de Wit teamed up to edge Warnholtz and Vicain 9-8 (8-6) at the top doubles match.
