Two Doubles Wins Leads Women's Tennis to 6-3 Win over Mount Olive in Season Finale

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University wrapped up 2010 Conference Carolinas play with a 6-3 victory over Mount Olive in women’s tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center. The Lady Falcons finish the regular season 13-6 overall, 6-3 in league play heading into the weekend’s tournament. The Trojans fall to 8-13, 5-5.
Mount Olive jumped on the board first with the #1 doubles team of Jessica Souza/Sofia Medeiros picking up an 8-2 win over Alena Krutkina/Jonnell Carpenter. Pfeiffer bounced back with an 8-6 win at #2 thanks to Patty Dominguez/Maddy Billeter defeating Pietra Viana/Camila Kurebayashi. In the final doubles match, Catie Thomas/Chelsi Haefele rolled Patricia Guedes and Noelia Mora 8-1.
In singles action, Krutkina and Haefele needed three sets to score individual wins. At #1, Krutkina knocked off Souza 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-3. Haefele, playing in the sixth spot, scored a 1-6, 6-4, 11-9 victory over Mora. Dominguez won two and two over Viana while Carpenter went four and five over Guedes. The Trojans two singles points came from Kurebayashi beating Billeter 6-0, 6-1 and Medeiros defeating Thomas love and one.
