Softball Magic Runs Out as Lady Falcons Suffer Second Walk-Off Homer in the Eighth; Season Ends with 4-2 Loss to Anderson

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – For the second time in the 2010 Conference Carolinas softball tournament, Pfeiffer University became the victim of a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning as Anderson came from behind to pick up a 4-2 victory in the second elimination contest on Saturday at Byerly Park. Anderson improves to 27-17 and will face the winner of Limestone/Queens. The Lady Falcons ends their season at 21-29.
In the fourth, Anderson broke a scoreless game up with a sacrifice fly by Meredith Knox. Amber Sutherland began the frame with a base hit to center, later scoring on Knox’s fly ball to center.
Pfeiffer came back in the sixth with Heather Nobles’ second home run of the day, another solo shot, to square the contest at 1-1. Seventh inning magic appeared to again be with the Lady Falcons as another rally begin with an Andrea Wagner single to center. Later in the frame, Amber Johnson delivered with a RBI-single to center putting Pfeiffer three outs away from the second-straight upset.
In the Trojans seventh, a pinch-hit double by Lyndsey Huitt put the home team in business with a two-out Kinsley Durham double sent the game into extra innings. In the eighth, after a lead-off single by Elisa Sebastyan, Meredith Knox sent the game-winning blast to left ending the year for the Lady Falcons.
