Ayers Added as New Assistant Coach for Lady Falcons Soccer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University athletic director Bobby Stewart, along with head coach of women’s soccer Elijah Denton, announced the hiring of Derrick Ayers as the new assistant coach of the Lady Falcons soccer program.

Ayers comes to Pfeiffer after serving as a volunteer assistant last season with the University of South Carolina. Ayers helped the Gamecocks post a 19-4-2 record last season as SEC Champions making it into the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen. Previous to South Carolina, Ayers had the reigns of the men’s soccer program at Arcadia University in Glenside, PA. Under Ayers, the Knights became the PAC’s regular season and tournament champions in his first campaign.

Prior to Arcadia, Ayers led Washington and Jefferson College as an assistant to three-straight years of championship with regular season titles in 2003 and 2005 with PAC tournament banners in ’03 and ’05. Ayers has always been involved with youth soccer programs, currently with the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association.

Along with Coach Denton, Ayers and the rest of the Lady Falcons will kick off the 2010 slate with a pair of games in Charlotte on September 3rd and 5th. Pfeiffer will take on Carson-Newman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday while concluding with Flagler at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
