Men and Women's Golf Teams Finish Second at Anderson Invitational; Men Lose in One-Hole Playoff

ANDERSON, S.C. – Both Pfeiffer University golf team’s finished in the runners-up spot at the 2010 Anderson Invitational at the par 71, 6,402 yard Anderson Country Club in Anderson. The men tied for the top spot with Tusculum, but lost a one-hole playoff to the Pioneers. The women also concluded behind the Pioneers finishing seven shots back. Luiz Jacintho and Steph Peareth paced the Falcons each wrapping up fourth.
Under blue skies and with the temperature hovering in the low 90s, Lincoln Memorial (293+294=587) opened Tuesday’s final round with a narrow three-shot edge over both Tusculum (296+290=586) and Wingate (296+295=591), but led by Luke Fallon and Nick York, the Pioneers shaved a combined six-strokes off their first round score to force the playoff with Pfeiffer.
Jacintho carded 75 and 70 concluding in a tie for fourth. Jonathan Miles and Tyson Louth each finished in a tie for sixth shooting 147. Miles went 77, 70 while Louth turned in 73 and 74 in the two-round event. Michael Blair and Garrett Dranichak finished with 150 and 153 as Dranichak notched an 11-shot improvement from his first round effort.
On the women’s side, Pfeiffer scored consistently 328 and 327 as a team. Peareth led the way with a 78, 79 for a 157, fourth place finish. Angela Gimenez concluded on Peareth’s heels tied for fifth with a 162 (82/80) while Jackie McMenimon also finished in the top-10 tying for seventh firing a 163 (81/82).
Chelsea Demers and Kelly Hill finished Pfeiffer’s scoring each carding top-25 finishes. Hill finished one shot behind Demers with 173 and 174’s respectively.
Both teams will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday hosting the Falcon Cup Invitational at the Badin Inn Golf Club.
