Reaves' Insurance Goal Helps Women's Soccer to 3-1 Win over Region Rival Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – Pfeiffer University used a pair of early first half goals to defeat host Catawba 3-1 in women’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Frock Field. The Lady Falcons improve to 6-4, while the Catawba Indians fall to 5-3-2.
Lady Falcon forward Sheena Regan (Chesapeake, VA) was the first to score in the 19th minute on an assist from teammate Rachael Shapelow (Swan Point, MD). Shapelow then added a goal of her own in the 30th minute as she took a deflected pass that caught Indian goalie Kailey Johnson (Hampstead, NCl) out of position.
Catawba’s Athena Bless (Asheboro, NC) responded in the 33rd minute to cut the lead in half. She connected from 25 yards out with a shot in the back upper corner just under the crossbar.
Pfeiffer scored the crucial goal in the 63rd minute to regain a two-goal cushion. Megan Reaves (Mims, FL) knocked home a rolling cross from teammate Megan Weston (Olathe, KS) at the back post.
Pfeiffer goalie Jamie Alcala (Fredricksburg, VA) picked up the win with eight saves. Johnson recorded two saves for Catawba. Lindsey Webster (Hopkinton, MA) started the second half for the Indians and added a save of her own.
The Lady Falcons return to Conference Carolinas action on Saturday heading to Belmont Abbey to face the unbeaten Crusaders. Belmont Abbey is currently ranked #16 nationally and #3 in the southeast region. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
