Four Falcons Score Individual Wins at Lenoir-Rhyne Tri-Meet


HICKORY, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University men and women’s swim teams competed against Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill on Saturday afternoon as the Falcons took a 98-22 win over the Bears and dropped a 75-47 to the Lions. The Lady Falcons dropped both of their meets 77-44 to L-R and 84-38 to Mars Hill. George Moreno and Charlie Melesh each scored a pair of wins on the men’s side while Jillian Kniffen and Samantha Maness tallied victories on the women’s side.

Event six saw the men take their first individual win as Edwin Torres registered the top time of 1:49.48 in the 200-yard freestyle. Three events later, Kniffen tallied her win and the team’s first victory in the 100-yard breaststroke clocking in just over a minute and 11 seconds.

Melesh tallied his first of two wins in the 200 butterfly as the only competitor to finish under two minutes at 1:59.60. Moreno snagged his first top spot in the next men’s event, the speedy 50-yard free, finishing in just over 22 seconds. The second win of Moreno’s afternoon came in the 500 free touching in 5:06.76. Maness and Melesh rounded out the day with wins in the 400 individual medley. Maness began with a 4:58.47 while Melesh completed in 4:20.08.

Next on the slate for Pfeiffer swimming will be the annual rivalry meet with Catawba, hosting the Indians on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Falcons will then travel to Converse to take on the Valkyries at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
