China's 22 Points Leads Lady Falcons to 65-56 Home Opening Win over Brevard

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė Pfeiffer senior Domonique China (Durham, NC) poured in a game-high 22 points leading the Lady Falcons to a 65-56 win over visiting Brevard College in non-conference womenís basketball on Tuesday night. Tuesday marked the second-straight home opening victory for Pfeiffer evening to 1-1 on the year while the Tornados dip to 0-3.

After an opening three by Brevardís Lindsay Brendle (High Point, NC) and layup by Amanda Whitaker (Asheville, NC) 2:16 into the contest, Pfeiffer would take the lead for good on a triple by China just 16 seconds later.

A basket by Micheala Watkins (Forest City, NC) brought the Tornados back to within one until the Lady Falcons erupted for a 13-0 run fueled by a pair of Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) threes with another China triple in the middle.

Pfeiffer would hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half getting out to as much as a 14-point lead on six different occasions. A pair of buckets by Watkins again sliced the Lady Falcon lead down to 10, but a jumper in the lane by Celeste Caudill (Sparta, NC) at the buzzer secured a 38-24 Pfeiffer lead at the break.

The hosts held their double-digit advantage until the 14:25 mark of the second as Brevardís Candice Fritz (North East, MD) drained a couple of free throws cutting the lead back to nine. A late 8-0 run by the Tornados midway through the stanza trimmed the deficit to a half-dozen on a layup by Holli Flippo (Kingston Springs, TN). A pair of Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) free throws stopped the temporary spurt by the visitors as Pfeiffer held on for the nine point win.

Behind China, Harvey finished with a dozen points while Devona Knight (Woodbridge, VA) concluded with 10. For Brevard, Fritz posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Watkins and Brendle each delivered double-digit outputs with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Brevard did hold the team advantage in field goal percentage and rebounds, but Pfeiffer held the mark in three-points and charity stripe baskets.

Pfeiffer will return to action this weekend in the Queen City Classic hosted by Johnson C. Smith on Saturday and Sunday. The Lady Falcons will take on the host Bulls at 4:00 p.m. Saturday while battling Livingstone at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.††
