Melesh Scores Individual Win as Falcon Swimming Holds Solid Ground at D1 Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. Ė The Pfeiffer University menís and womenís swim teams dove into division one competition on Friday afternoon taking on Campbell and Gardner-Webb in the Fighting Camels Johnson Natatorium. The Lady Falcons fell 140-49 to Campbell while the men dropped a 131.5-60.5 decision to Gardner-Webb. Charlie Melesh scored the only individual win of the afternoon.

Melesh scored his win in event four, the 1,000 yard freestyle, with a time of 10:01.58 to finish more than 11 seconds better than his Bulldog opponents. Two events later, Edwin Torres just missed a personal victory in the 200 freestyle falling a half-second short of the top spot at 1:48.27.

On the womenís side, Haley Carter represented Pfeiffer concluded the 50 yard free two seconds behind the victor from Campbell. A rare half point came one event later in the menís 50 free as George Moreno and GWUís Cole Hickey hit the pad at exactly 22.44 tying for second, just .20 seconds off the top spot.

Andrew Corley got in on the action finishing second in the 400 individual medley while Zach McMichael finished the 200 fly in the runnerís up spot by less than a second. Pfeiffer ended the day with Jillian Kniffen finishing fifth out of a dozen competitors in the 200 breaststroke while Torres concluded second in the same event on the menís side.

Pfeiffer will get back in the pool next Saturday hosting VMI at 2:00 p.m. It will mark senior day for both squads.
