Results vs. Armstrong Atlantic (2009-04-07 15:00:00)

Misenheimer, NC -- Pfeiffer opened up a week-long home stand with a 7-2 win over the visiting Armstrong Atlantic Pirates. The Falcons used the help of three long balls and a solid pitching performance to soar over the Pirates.Pfeiffer opened up the scoring in the bottom half of the second inning off Pirate starter Bryan Roby (Wilsonville, OR). Jesse Dunn (Easley, SC) reached on a leadoff single and then following a fly out, Preston Lyon (Gastonia, NC) connected for his sixth homerun of the season and put Pfeiffer up 2-0.
The Falcons extended their lead to 5-0 after the third. Josh Strickland (Liberty, NC) reached on a one-out walk then scored on a triple by Eric Shoemaker (Huntersville, NC). The Shoemaker triple was followed by a Zach Pou (Stanley, NC) two-run homerun over the left field fence to give Pfeiffer the 5-0 lead. The Falcons once again added to their lead in the fourth when Myles Pearl (High Point, NC) hit a line drive solo homerun to dead center field.
Pfeiffer starting pitcher Chris Miller (Atlantic Beach, FL) held the Pirates down until the seventh. He allowed only two hits until then. With one out, John Roberts (Guyton, GA) hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-1.
The Pirates added a run in the eighth, but Pfeiffer scored one of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Pearl walked with one out then stole second and later scored on a RBI single by Zack Strickland (Liberty, NC).
Chris Miller picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. He went seven innings allowing only one run on four hits while striking out five. At the plate Pfeiffer was led by Pou and Lyon who each had two-run homeruns. It was a balanced attack in which eight of the nine starters had hits.
For the Pirates, Roby picked up the loss. He tossed three innings allowing five runs on four hits. Kenny Cail (Savannah, GA) led the Pirate bats with a homerun.
Pfeiffer and Armstrong Atlantic return to action on Wednesday at 3:00 PM to finish the midweek series.
