Men's Basketball Falls By a Dozen at Coker; Woods Scores 35 Needing 22 on Saturday for 2,000 in Career

HARTSVILLE, S.C. Ė Pfeiffer University senior Chris Woods poured in a game-high 35 points but it wasnít enough as Coker College put together a balanced attack placing five in double-figures during a 98-86 victory in Conference Carolinas menís basketball on Tuesday night. The victory pushes the Cobras to 9-13 overall, 8-8 in league play while the Falcons drop their third-straight falling to 10-15, 8-9.
Cokerís big night was thanks in part to a 64% field goal percentage in the 12-point win. The hosts went 18-of-29 in the first half followed by 18-of-27 in the second 20 minutes in the win. Liam Kyle paced the Cobras with 19 points followed by Dolonte Doles who poured in 15 off the bench. Tom Wright contributed with 14 while Joselle Bracy and Vatrick Thompson each had 11. Coker also dominated the boards pulling down 38 to the Falcons 25.
Woods put 35 in on Tuesday night leaving him 22 shy of crossing the 2,000-point plateau for his career. Woods went 12-of-19 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. Jeff Pettiway was the only other Falcon in double-figures scoring 17. Pfeiffer shot 44% in the loss, going just 4-of-21 from behind the arc.
Pfeiffer will have their 2010-2011 regular season finale take place on Saturday night hosting Erskine at 7:30 p.m. It will also be senior night for Woods, Pettiway, Yuki Yamaguchi and Vonte Eaford. Woods will also try to make Pfeiffer Basketball history as the senior needs just 22 points to put himself into the 2,000-point club for his career.
