Sarah Hebberd Tallies Four Goals as Women's Lacrosse Defeats Queens 16-13 in Non-Conference Play

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte fell 16-13 this afternoon to Pfeiffer University in non-conference women’s lacrosse action. The Royals fall to 2-1 after the loss, while Pfeiffer remains undefeated at 3-0 on the season.
Queens got on the board early when Shannon Casey found a cutting Kristi Kemp who fired the ball into the net at 25:16. The Royals would have to wait nearly 15 minutes before seeing another goal as Pfeiffer quickly tied the game up and took over scoring six goals in a row.
At 23:54 a foul led to Katherine Athens scoring on a free-position-shot for Pfeiffer. Her shot was followed up by another free-position-shot scored by Jessica Moulton. The Falcons then netted four goals in a row.
With 9:57 left to play in the half, Amanda Martin responded for Queens breaking the Falcons’ run. The Royals scored three more goals bringing them within one of Pfeiffer with a little over six minutes left in the half. However, Queens couldn’t hold off the Pfeiffer attack to close the half as the Falcons scored three more goals making the score 9-5 at the break.
Queens opened the second half of this afternoon’s game scoring two goals within 12 seconds of each other. Casey netted the first on a free-position-shot, and Emily Balmer assisted Caitlin O’Rourke on the second. Brittany Philip shadowed scoring two consecutive goals for Queens broken up by the first goal of the half for Pfeiffer making the score 10-9 with 23:19 left to play.
Pfeiffer answered going back up by two and holding a two point lead until Jessica Rooney brought the Royals back within one, 13-12, at 12:35. Two more Pfeiffer goals put the visiting team back up by three just under the 10 minute mark. With less than six minutes to go, O’Rourke scored the last goal of the game for Queens making it 15-13 before Athens of Pfeiffer scored giving the game a final score of 16-13.
The Royals outshot the Falcons 39-27 in the loss. Queens also won the battle for draw controls 17-13 and the battle for ground balls 34-28.
Philip and O’Rourke led Queens today with a pair of hat tricks. Philip also led the Royals with four draw controls. Shannon Casey led in points with four on two goals and two assists. Emily Balmer collected five ground balls and caused five turnovers. Chelsea Lancashire totaled five saves.
Leading the Falcons was Sarah Hebberd with four goals and one assists. Jessica Moulton netted three goals and dished out three assists for six points. Alex Cook scored two goals and had three assists. Amanda Smith led the Falcons with five ground balls. Kaitlin Booth picked up the win in the cage while collecting 13 saves on the day.
