Despite Five Goals from Bonnel, Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short 14-9 vs. #5 Le Moyne

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Le Moyne’s Brittany Brigandi (Syracuse, NY) found the back of the net a game-high six times as the fifth-ranked Dolphins registered a 14-9 victory over Pfeiffer University in women’s lacrosse action Saturday at N.E. Lefko Field. The win keeps the Dolphins unbeaten at 4-0 while the Lady Falcons even to 4-4.

Brigandi started the day with the game’s first goal 3:31 into the first half before a quick response from Pfeiffer’s Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) squared the contest 1:13 later. A pair of goals by Bonnel and Jessica Moulton (Huntingtown, MD) in a six-minute span quickly pushed the Lady Falcons up three at 5-2 before Brigandi took over.

Beginning at the 12:33 mark of the first, the Dolphins would tally the next six-straight goals, five of them by Brigandi, to take an 8-5 lead into the half. The first two for the junior came on free position shots before Michelle Phillips (Johnson City, NY) notched her first of three on the day. Brigandi would then reel off the next three in a 4:35 span to put the visitors up three at the intermission.

Le Moyne’s Rebekah Elmer (Syracuse, NY) would score the first two goals to open up the second half before Bonnel struck again with 18:46 left. After one more from Elmer at 15:13, Pfeiffer’s Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO) would score the first of her two playing man-down with 13:55 left. The Dolphins’ Mia Valletta (Niskayuna, NY) would hit with 10:48 left on the clock before Hebberd and Bonnel each hit again to try and spark a Lady Falcon rally. Phillips would quickly end those thoughts with two more goals over the next 1:15 to end it.

Behind Brigandi’s half-dozen, Elmer and Phillips each finished the day with a hat trick. For the Lady Falcons, Hebberd and Moulton each scored a pair trailing team-leader Bonnel who scored five on the afternoon.

The Lady Falcons will now move forward to their 2011 Conference Carolinas opener hosting Belmont Abbey at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
