March 18, 2011
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – USC-Aiken put together some impressive two-out production scoring 12 of their 13 runs on Friday with two outs on the board en route to a 4-1 and 8-1 sweep over Pfeiffer University at Jack Ingram Field. The Lady Pacers improve to 17-9 while the Lady Falcons fall to 13-15.
Each team traded runs in the first as a two-out double by USCA’s Lauren Locklear (Charleston, SC) kept the inning alive for a Kelley King (Chesterfield, SC) RBI-single to center. In Pfeiffer’s half, a Sarah Waylock (Cary, IL) run-scoring single to right scored Celia Dew (Sanford, NC). Dew reached with a one-out single earlier in the frame.
Single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth added insurance for the Lady Pacers in the 4-1 win. A two-out RBI double to right-center by Kayle Denham (Palatka, FL) plated Hillary Stewart (Blythewood, SC) in the fourth. Brittney Williamson (Lexington, SC) added a run-scoring single in the fifth while Locklear added another RBI-double in the sixth.
Lauren Rickabaugh (North Augusta, SC) earned the win in the circle tossing five frames, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Kylee Knop (Oxford, GA) earned the save throwing the final two allowing one hit with a strikeout.
Starting the nightcap, the Lady Pacers quickly added three two-out runs in the second as a two-run triple to right by Denham scored Lindsey Jones (North Augusta, SC) and Whitney Clary (Newberry, SC) who each reached on one out singles. Williamson followed plating Denham with a quick single of her own.
With two outs in the top of the fifth, Brandy Bossle (North East, MD) kept the frame alive with a base hit, allowing for Denham to smack a two-run shot to left-center to put the visitors up five. Pfeiffer got on the board in game two in the fifth as Allison Braswell (Asheboro, NC) led off with a single to left, later coming around on a two-out double to center by Rachel LaBar (Bradenton, FL).
Denham would add her fifth RBI in game two with a ground out in the sixth, before Locklear drove in two more with a double to left-center. Stewart would push the lead to eight and help end the contest early with a RBI-single to cap off the four-run sixth.
India Kornegay (Eufaula, AL) earned the complete game in the nightcap allowing just the one run with three hits while fanning nine.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Monday after a weekend off with a Conference Carolinas twinbill with Belmont Abbey. First pitch on Monday is set for 2:00 p.m.
