Women's Lacrosse Stays Unbeaten in League Play with 19-7 Win over Converse

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University needed a 13-3 first half to power a 19-7 victory over visiting Converse College in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Falcons move to 6-4 overall while staying unbeaten in league play at 2-0. The Valkyries suffer their second-straight loss falling to 1-8, 0-3.
Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) starting things off with a quick goal just 45 seconds in until Converse’s Jordan Taylor (Ladson, SC) responded at the 25:43 mark. The Lady Falcons took over the first 20 minutes scoring 12 of the next 14 to take a 13-3 lead at the break.
Bonnel sparked the first run of seven goals with two more while five other Lady Falcons tallied in the eight minute stretch. After the Valkyries’ Lacey Bevilacqua (Carlsbad, CA) scored her first of four with 13:30 left, Katherine Athens (Huntingtown, MD) would slam home a pair of goals helping Pfeiffer carry their 10-goal lead at the break.
After Bonnel and Alex Cook (Commack, NY) pushed the advantage to 16-4 just ten minutes into the second, Converse would respond with three-straight to slice the lead down to nine. Bevilacqua would strike back-to-back while Brooke Bondurant would tally man-down with 10:30 remaining. Pfeiffer would then rattle off the next three for the final dozen goal margin.
Amanda Smith (Hagerstown, MD) led the way on defense with six groundballs and six draw controls. Laura Shea (Damascus, MD) also chipped in causing a game-high three turnovers.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Thursday traveling to Limestone for a first-place showdown at 4:00 p.m.
