Women's Lacrosse Runs Out of Time in 7-6 League Loss at #3 Limestone
March 25, 2011
GAFFNEY, S.C. – In a battle of Conference Carolinas top-two teams, third-ranked Limestone pulled out a narrow 7-6 win over Pfeiffer University in women’s lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Saints improve to 9-0 overall, 3-0 in league play while the Lady Falcons fall to 6-5, 3-0.
Limestone would tally four of the game’s first five goals in a 6:44 span as Pfeiffer’s Natalie Marvin’s goal came on a free position shot. Rachel Hebberd and Shannon Bonnel would later score back-to-back for a 4-3 contest, but Limestone’s Jessie Aguglia closed out the half with a strike for a two-goal Limestone lead at the break.
After the Lady Saints tallied the first two goals of the second half, Pfeiffer made a late push with three-straight trying to force overtime or come up with the game winner in regulation. Alex Cook started the rally with 11 minutes remaining while Jessica Moulton and Hebberd scored nine seconds about to trail by one with 4:45 remaining. Despite out-shooting Limestone 12-7 in the second half, Pfeiffer couldn’t punch home the equalizer in the final five minutes.
Pfeiffer will return to action on Sunday taking on Queens College of New York in Annapolis, MD. The neutral site contest at Anne Arundel Community College will begin at 2:00 p.m.
