Men's Tennis Ends Season with Another 5-4 Heartbreaker; Fifth-Seeded Falcons fall to #4 Mount Olive

SUMTER, S.C. – Pfeiffer University’s tough-luck stretch of matches continued on Friday morning as Mount Olive College registered a 5-4 win over the Falcons in men’s tennis action during the first round of the 2011 Conference Carolinas tournament. The Trojans move onto the second round with an overall record of 12-7 while the Falcons, dropping their fourth 5-4 match in the short month, end their season at 7-10.
Mount Olive took a 2-1 lead through doubles play as Philip Lawson and Johan de Wit scored an 8-4 win at #1 doubles for the Falcons’ point. In singles action, Lawson, Ben Hunter and Stephen Tyndel each notched a point as Pfeiffer came up just short. All three won in straight-sets while the three Mount Olive wins in singles play went at-least 6-4 in every set.
