Softball's Seventh-Inning Rally Falls 60 Feet Short in 2-1 Loss to Queens
April 15, 2011
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – An early pair of runs was all fourth-seeded Queens needed in a 2-1 winner’s bracket victory over eighth-seeded Pfeiffer University on Friday afternoon. Both teams are still alive in the 2011 Conference Carolinas softball tournament as Saturday play has been moved up two hours with severe weather on the way.
Three hits in the third led to the Royals pair of runs on a two-out single up the middle. Pfeiffer’s lone run came in the top of the seventh as Melanie Conklin drove home Hannah Jackson with two outs. Mikaela Strickland popped up to second with runners at second and third to end the game. Queens had just three hits in the win.
Pfeiffer is back in action early Saturday morning taking on host and third-seeded Coker at 9:00 a.m.
