Pfeiffer Community Mourns the Loss of Former Basketball Student-Athlete

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Former Pfeiffer University student-athlete Dexter Royer was tragically killed on Wednesday morning in a logging accident nearby his hometown of Dubois, Indiana. Royer, 21, working with Mark Morin Logging, was cutting down a tree when an adjacent dead tree fell on top of him in southeastern Jackson County.

Fellow crew members tried to help Royer before emergency workers arrived on scene. Royer was a liberal studies major during his time at Pfeiffer and a member of the Pfeiffer Basketball team. “Our Pfeiffer Basketball program is saddened by the news of Dexter’s passing,” stated head coach Jeremy Currier. “Dexter was a wonderful young man that brought energy and passion to everything he did. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Royer family through this difficult time.”
