Women's Volleyball Drops Three at Tough USC-Aiken Invitational

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University women’s volleyball team struggled through an 0-3 weekend at the USC-Aiken Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Augusta State swept the Lady Falcons on Friday night while Newberry did the same to end the weekend on Saturday afternoon. In the middle, host USC-Aiken claimed a 3-1 win to start the action in day two. Pfeiffer stands at 3-4 on the season heading into next week’s conference opener.
The Jaguars registered the sweep by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-17 hitting .303 for the match against the Lady Falcons .253. Freshman Kelly Lancellot led the way with seven kills hitting at a .429 clip. Meghan Davis followed going 6-for-7 in the kill department while setter Cate Glendenning assisted 17 times. Alex Rohlfing paced ASU with 14 kills in 24 attempts.
In the four set match against the host Pacers, Pfeiffer grabbed a 25-23 win in the opening set before falling 25-11, 25-13 and 25-15. Jordan O’Bryant led the Lady Falcons in Saturday’s opener with eight kills followed by Kim Amerell’s seven. Glendenning added 25 assists while Taylor Houser popped up 15 digs. Pfeiffer hit .239 in the first set before the struggles came in sets 2-4.
Against Newberry, Pfeiffer ran out of gas being swept 25-14, 25-14, 25-15. Amerell led with eight more kills with Glendenning dishing out 22 more assists. Amerell also led in the dig department with 10 digs. Newberry hit an even .300 in the three-set sweep.
Pfeiffer will now look forward to Conference Carolinas play beginning on Friday night at Limestone. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
