Papaj Nets Golden Goal to Give Women's Soccer 2-1 League Overtime Win at Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Brittany Papaj found the back of the net with 3:47 remaining in the first overtime period to lift Pfeiffer University to a 2-1 victory in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon. Both teams traded goals within a minute of each other early in the second half before Papaj’s game-winner. The Lady Falcons improve to 1-4 on the year while the Valkyries fall to 0-5-1.
On the back half of overtime, Alyssa Wombwell delivered the pass that allowed Papaj to net the golden goal for Pfeiffer’s first victory of the season. In the 55th minute of action earlier, Megan Weston did the same to Katie Collins who converted her first of the year for a 1-0 Lady Falcon lead. Just 61 seconds later, Samantha Barron put home the equalizer for Converse.
Pfeiffer held a commanding 35-6 advantage in shots with 18 going on goal. Katie Wasylko made 16 saves for the Valkyries in the losing effort. The Lady Falcons are back at home on Saturday hosting rival Catawba at 2:00 p.m. Live stats will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
