Mullis Leads Women's Cross Country to Runner-Up Spot; Men Finish Fourth at Bulldog Stampede

WINGATE, N.C. - For the third year in a row, the Lady Falcons cross country team placed in the top two teams at the Bulldog Stampede, falling short of host team Wingate University’s score by 23 points. Wingate’s Keeley Wood took the individual title with a run of 19:32 over the 5-kilometer course. The women’s team put four back-to-back runners in the top eight, all of them finishing within the seconds of each other.
The ladies were led by senior Kaitlyn Mullis, who placed fifth overall with a time of 20:48. Freshman Justine Serje finished next, coming in sixth with a 21:08, with junior Vlada Mouravieva (21:13) running close behind in seventh place and freshman Megan Hunsucker (21:19) finishing eighth. Sophomore Nina Ubabuike (25:51) and junior April Hinson (25:56) rounded out the Lady Falcons for the day.
Wingate also took the overall title for the men’s 8k race, with their top runner Steve Hammond claiming the individual crown with a 26:09.
The Pfeiffer men’s team ran a strong race despite missing strong runners due to sidelining injuries. Junior Will Oliver ran a 28:44 to gain top-fifteen honors, placing fourteenth. Freshman Jeff McClure placed twenty-first with a time of 29:55. Junior Zack Allen (30:13) came next, with sophomore Trey Sharpe (30:19) finishing a few seconds later. The Falcons finished up the run with sophomores Cody Bivens (30:35) and Fred Travis (33:28). Pfeiffer finished fourth in the team standings, just one point out of third.
The men’s and women’s teams will be back in action October 1st at the Hagan Stone XC Classic in Greensboro, NC.
