Men and Women's Swimming Opens Up 2011-2012 with Strong Showing in Carolinas Meet

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Ė The 2011-2012 Pfeiffer University swim teams opened their season on Saturday hosting the Carolinas Meet at the Merner Pool. The men finished third out of the four league schools in attendance while the ladies concluded fourth out of five in the 26-event meet.
The afternoon started with a third-place finish in the womenís 200-yard medley relay by Yukina Onoda, Jillian Kniffen, Vicky Miller and Kim Benton. In the same event, the menís combo of Elijah Bohon, Matt Burns, Andrew Corley and George Moreno finished in the runnerís up spot. Onoda would later bring home a top-five finish in the 50 backstroke while Robbie Skinner and Mark Franz did the same on the menís side.
Kniffen and Burns would finish fourth and third respectively in the 50 breaststroke as Corley concluded fourth later in the 100 butterfly. Bohon continued his impressive start to the season with a third place finish in the 50 free while Moreno wrapped up two spots back in fifth. Moreno would later finish the 100 free in fourth while Bohon and Skinner went three and four in the 100 back.
The men continued with two more top-five touches with Burns and Jim Roddenbery in the 100 breaststroke while Corley and Kniffen put a bow on the individual races with top-four finishes in the 50 fly and 100 IM. Rounding out the meet with the 200 freestyle relay, the women concluded fourth overall swimming with Kniffen, Benton, Onoda and Miller while the men touched third with Moreno, Bohon, Mark Franz and Corley in event 26.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday traveling to Radford for a tri-meet with VMI at 2:00 p.m.
