Wild Second Half Sees Bobcats Slide Past Men's Soccer 3-2
October 10, 2011
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Through a scoreless first half of play, both teams turned on the offense in the second half as Lees-McRae College sneaked past Pfeiffer University 3-2 in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action on Monday afternoon. The win gives the Bobcats their fourth-in-a-row moving to 8-3-1 overall, 5-1 in league play. On the other side, the Falcons drop to 1-10, 0-6 after suffering their eighth-straight loss.
Just past the hour in the second half is when scoring started as James Galvani (Wycombe, ENGLAND) hooked up with John Williams (Rutherfordton, NC) who delivered a cross after a Pfeiffer foul that found Galvani’s head for the goal. Five minutes later, Fahret Salihovic (Charlotte, NC) would put home his second of the year with an unassisted blast from 25 yards out.
In the 70th minute, Lees-McRae was awarded a penalty kick during a corner kick attempt as Andrew Shoemaker (Cary, NC) converted for a 2-1 lead. After Scott Hudgins (Fort Myers, FL) tallied his second 10 minutes later, Pfeiffer was awarded their predictable upcoming penalty kick as Niko Andrade (Gainesville, GA) pushed it in for the 3-2 difference.
After a fairly quiet first half with no cards issues, both teams combined for seven in the second half with 20 fouls. The Bobcats held a 17-9 shots advantage with a 5-2 mark on goal.
Pfeiffer returns to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon hosting St. Andrews for a Conference Carolinas tilt at 4:00 p.m. Live stats will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
