Wombwell and Chrishon Each Net Two as Women's Soccer Rolls St. Andrews 7-0
October 13, 2011
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A pair of goals by Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, MI) and Joi Chrishon (Fayetteville, NC) was more than enough for Pfeiffer University in a 7-0 blanking of St. Andrews in Conference Carolinas action on Thursday afternoon. This rare neutral site league tilt took place at the Harrisburg Road Sports Complex after conditions were still unplayable at N.E. Lefko Field. The Lady Falcons move to 6-7 overall, 5-3 in league play with the win while the Knights fall to 1-11, 0-9.
Wombwell would net the first of her two on the day just 5:45 in after corralling a loose ball and firing her shot just inside the left post. Megan Weston (Olathe, KS) would get in on the action 13 minutes later forcing a turnover at midfield before beating St. Andrews keeper Hannah Platt (Burgaw, NC) for a 2-0 lead.
A pair of corner kicks led to the final two goals of the half starting in the 33rd minute. After Hannah Hill (Monroe, NC) delivered the corner attempt, Mackenzie Greene (Lenoir, NC) would eventually find her foot on the ball and convert the shot for her first collegiate goal. Less than three minutes later, Hill sent in the corner attempt this time finding the head of Chrishon to make a 4-0 at the break.
In the second half, Wombwell would knock home her team-leading eighth of the season after snagging a deflected cross in the 64th minute. In the 78th minute, Serae Mele (Rio Rancho, NM) put in a cross from the left side of the pitch that found a streaking Hill who made it 6-0 with her third of the year. Chrishon would later close out scoring on the day with a tough-angle shot finding the back of the net in the 79th minute.
Pfeiffer outshot the Knights 27-6 on the day, 17-2 on goal. The best chance for the Knights came with 16:08 left in the first as Hannah Wilson (Salisbury, NC) clanked her only shot of the day off the crossbar. Hill also did the same for the Lady Falcons.
Pfeiffer will now head to King for a Conference Carolinas matchup with the Tornado on Saturday. Kickoff in Tennessee is set for 1:00 p.m.
