October 15, 2011
RADFORD, V.A. - Pfeiffer University competed in meet #2 for the 2011-2012 swim season on Saturday at Radford with VMI also in attendance. On the men's side, Pfeiffer fell 125-93 to VMI while the Lady Falcons grabbed a split decision winning 112-79 over VMI and falling to host Radford 136-69.
The meet started with a second place finish by the women's 400 yard individual medley relay team consisting of Yukina Onoda, Jillian Kniffen, Vicky Miller and Kim Benton. The four concluded six seconds behind host Radford. In the same event, the men's quartet of Elijah Bohon, Matt Burns, Andrew Corley and George Moreno topped the field by five seconds.
On the individual side, Morgan Dionne started that portion of the day with a second place finish in the lengthy 1,000 yard freestyle. Maness would do the same in the 400 IM before Cory Pooley concluded third in the men's event.
Corley would later grab an individual win in the 100 fly on the men's side before Benton again continued her day with a runner-up spot in the 100 free. Moreno followed with a 100 free victory himself before Bohon and Robert Skinner went back-to-back in the 100 back.
Miller came within three seconds of victory in the 500 free later in the day before Kniffen took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke. In the men's 100 breaststroke, Burns scored the victory by .05 seconds over David Hayes of VMI for the closest finish of the day.
In the final 400 yard free relay, Pfeiffer took wins in both events as Benton, Onoda, Miller and Kniffen took first over teammates Randi Bryden, Shelby Carrion, Dionne and Maness. By a half-second, the men's squad of Bohon, Mark Franz, Corley and Moreno finished the day on a high over VMI.
Four events in the diving category aided Radford and VMI in a little lopsided scoring.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday heading to Milligan with a 2:00 p.m. start time.
