MISENHEIMER, N.C. - James Crowder, a 2009 Pfeiffer University graduate, has recently signed a contract with Overense Basketball, one of the top professional organizations located in Ovar, Portugal playing in the LCB (Portuguese Basketball League). One of the most successful teams in the country, Ovarense Basketball has won five Portuguese Championships, two Portugal Cups, seven Portugal Super Cups, four Portuguese League Cups, and two Portuguese National Tournaments. Three time NBA Champion Mario Elie played for Ovarense a few years back.
“James is coming off a fine rookie campaign in Ireland, where he won the National Championship and was named Most Outstanding Player,” said Falcon head men's basketball coach Jeremy Currier. “It is no surprise that a team of this quality would pick up a player of James’s caliber. Standing at 6’7’’, James is a shooting guard that brings a high skill set with tremendous versatility to any team he is on."
Crowder left Pfeiffer averaging 15.1 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 49% from the field, 41% from three-point range while leading the team in blocked shots as a senior. James went on to lead UDC Marian to their first ever National Cup Victory under Coach Fran Ryan.
"Perhaps James’s most important attribute is being a great teammate and first-class individual," stated Currier. "The Falcon Basketball family is extremely proud of James and many other former Falcons that are representing our program and University in the professional basketball arenas across the world.”
