Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University posted four first half tallies on Tuesday afternoon en route to a 6-0 trouncing of North Greenville University in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action at N.E. Lefko Field. The win, coupled with a Queens loss at King, moves the Lady Falcons into sole possession of second place at 8-8-1 overall, 7-3-1 in league play. The Crusaders, who see their regular season come to an end with an outside shot at making the Conference tournament, fall to 5-8-2, 4-6-2.

Just 30 seconds in, a loose ball after a Pfeiffer corner kick was misplayed by a North Greenville defender which resulted in the first own goal of the season for an early 1-0 lead. Right at the 13 minute mark of the half, Megan Weston (Olathe, KS) converted her second of the year after a long pass was sent forward by Serae Mele (Rio Rancho, NM).

Mele would also lend a helping hand on the next Lady Falcon strike in the 32nd minute as her throw in led to Alyssa Wombwell’s (Grand Blanc, MI) team-leading eighth goal of the year. To end the first 45 minutes, Sheena Regan (Chesapeake, VA) notched her first after a quick Wombwell assist for the four-goal halftime lead.

After two first half assists, Mele would jump in on the goal scoring action with her first of the season in the 56th minute as her shot from the right side snuck inside the left post receiving the ball from Wombwell returning the favor. With just under five to play, freshman Katelynd Caudle (Yadkinville, NC) would deposit her first career collegiate goal beating keeper Regina Ibanga (Wichita, KS) thanks to a long pass from Mackenzie Greene (Lenoir, NC).

For the match, Pfeiffer held a commanding 25-7 advantage in shots with a dozen of those on goal. Jade Salle (Greenville, SC) led the Crusaders with a pair of shots, both on target. Jamie Alcala (Fredericksburg, VA) made a save during her first half in goal for the Lady Falcons while Amanda Wemple (Hayden Lake, ID) made two in the second half.

Pfeiffer will now look ahead to a huge showdown with Queens on Saturday afternoon marking the regular season finale on senior day at N.E. Lefko Field. Six seniors will be honored pregame before kickoff at 1:00 p.m. Live stats will be available via http://www.gofalconsports.com.
