November 29, 2011
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Led by 22 points and 16 rebounds from Jodie Lemons (Madison, NC) and a school record for team blocks in a game at 10, Pfeiffer University steamrolled Barber Scotia College 82-51 in non-conference women’s basketball action on Tuesday night in the Merner Gym. The victory pushes the Lady Falcons to their third-straight standing at 4-3 on the year while the Lady Sabers fall to 3-6.
Late in the first half, Lemons deposited back-to-back layups to put Pfeiffer up 31-9 before draining a pair of free throws just 90 seconds later. Early on, Lemons dropped a triple outside of a previous jumper during her 13-point, 12-rebound first half. Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) also got in on the action early with 14 first half points draining a triple and three jumpers while posting a 5-for-6 mark at the charity stripe. The Lady Falcons held a 46-18 lead at the break.
A three-ball from Cox and layup by Lemons gave Pfeiffer their largest lead of the night at 33, 51-18, just 40 seconds into the second half. The school record-breaking block came with 1:48 to play as Brittany Washington (Simpsonville, SC) helped Pfeiffer eclipse the old mark of nine set back in January at Coker. The Lady Falcons would close out the contest on an 18-8 run for the 31-point win.
Behind Lemons’ 22 and 16, Cox finished with 19 points on the night just two rebounds shy of another double-double with eight. Of the 11 players for Pfeiffer, each would register at-least two points or two assists logging 12+ minutes in the team effort. Barber Scotia was led by Lindsay Lee’s 12 points and 16 rebounds.
Pfeiffer now has a lengthy break from game action not hitting the floor against until a Friday, December 16th rematch against Barber Scotia.
