MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Visiting Limestone College scored a season-high 93 points shooting 55% from the field during a 93-80 victory over Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Saturday night in the Merner Gym. The Saints move to 8-9 overall while picking up their first league win advancing to 1-4. The Falcons, who drop their third-straight, fall to 8-7, 2-3.
As the first half clock ticked under nine minutes, Limestone began to push down the gas pedal as a three from Josh Corry (Gaffney, SC) got the ball rolling. A 14-5 run by the visitors in just over two minutes of action put the Saints up nine, 40-31, after a triple from Brandon Long (Charlotte, NC). Down by as much as 11 after three-straight converted free throws by Corry, Pfeiffer managed to get the Limestone lead down to seven after a layup by Danny Smith (Baltimore, MD) and pair of free throws by Reggie Hollinger (Orlando, FL) during the final 69 seconds.
Over the first seven minutes of the second half, the Saints bolted out on a 21-7 run with three-straight three’s from Ryan Bogdan (Charleston, SC) to grab a 66-47 lead with 12:56 remaining. Desmond Thomas (Baltimore, MD) would finally get the Falcons deficit back into single digits with his own three at the 4:12 mark of the second after Elijah Matthews (Clinton, MD) single-handedly kept Pfeiffer in the game with five-straight triples.
Layups by Smith and Hollinger 36 seconds apart moved the Falcons within eight, until another quick 5-0 burst by Charles Blue (Greenville, NC) and Joe Raga (Lithia, FL) iced the contest for the Saints.
Blue led Limestone as one of five in double-figures with 19 on the night to go along with his seven boards. Corry came up one point shy of Blue with 18 while Nick Debnam (Raleigh, NC) handed out a game-high 10 assists.
Smith paced the Falcons with 20 points and seven assists while Matthews followed with 19. Thomas and Hollinger each concluded the night with 15. Pfeiffer shot 40% from the field in the loss as both teams knocked down 13 triples.
