Conklin Pitches Softball to Game One Win; Lady Falcons Bats Silenced in Game Two
March 10, 2012
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University split a non-conference doubleheader with visiting West Liberty University on Saturday at Jack Ingram Field. The Lady Falcons notched a 4-2 win in the opener while Hilltoppers scored a 2-0 shutout in game two. Pfeiffer ends the day 7-15 on the year while West Liberty advances to 2-8.
Hannah Jackson got the Lady Falcons on the board in the first with a RBI-single that brought home Melanie Conklin. Celia Dew started a three-run fifth for insurance with a two-run single that plated Emily Workman and Tyresha Ellis. Dew would later score on Conklin's double. West Liberty would add two runs in the sixth on a two-run double by Felicia Hulslander.
Conklin grabbed the win in the circle with her complete game allowing just the two runs on five hits fanning a season-high 13 Hilltoppers. Workman finished with a pair of hits in game one.
In game two, the only two runs needed came in West Liberty's second frame as a RBI-single from Jennifer Young and sacrifice-fly by Jamee Burke would push two pair of runs across.
Pfeiffer's best chance in game two came in the fifth as Dew doubled and Conklin walked, but two-straight fielder's choices and a fly out to center ended the threat. Conklin would end game two with a 2-for-3 outing.
The Lady Falcons will now depart for Florida on Sunday to play five games in four days in the Orlando area.
