Cox Becomes All-America Honorable Mention; Only Representative from Conference Carolinas

ABILENE, T.X. North Georgia sophomore Jaymee Carnes has been voted the 2012 Daktronics Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Pfeiffer University's Brittany Cox becomes an honorable mention as the only Conference Carolinas representative and one of three from the Southeast Region.

Carnes a 6-0 sophomore forward from Gainesville, Ga. has already been named the 2012 Peach Belt Conference and Daktronics Southeast Region Player of the Year. She led the nation in scoring and in double-doubles and ranked in the top 15 in the country in rebounds per game.

Carnes is joined on the first team Daktronics all-America squad by Kari Daugherty of Ashland (Ohio), Ashley Arlen of Wayne State (Neb.), Satoria Bell of Newman (Kan.), and Laurent Battista of Bentley (Mass.). Daugherty, Arlen and Battista have all led their respective teams to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, which begins Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas.

The second team is comprised of Lydian Bridenbaugh of West Virginia Wesleyan, Kaitlin Snyder of Fairmont State (W.Va.), Veronica Walker of Delta State (Miss.), Jolysa Brown of Concord (W.Va.), and Christine Wooding of Philadelphia (Pa.).

The third team consists of Mack Lankford of Abilene Christian (Texas), Chelsea Carlisle of California-San Diego, Hanna Johanson of Alaska-Anchorage, Jewel White of Franklin Pierce (N.H.), and Cassie Morgan of Northern Kentucky.

Honorable mention selections were Ebonie Williams of Washburn (Kan.), Felicia Joyner of C.W. Post (N.Y.), Brittany Cox of Pfeiffer (N.C.), Tanisha Woodard of Clayton State (Ga.), Kelly Meredith of Assumption (Mass.), Shayla Washington of BYU-Hawaii, Christina Whitelaw of Colorado Christian, Michaela Hawley of Florida Southern, and Angie Jetvig of Minnesota State-Moorhead.
