Men's Lacrosse Wins Third-Straight over Wingate with 14-3 Trouncing of Bulldogs

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University registered 11 of the game’s final 12 goals en route to a 14-3 trouncing of visiting Wingate University in non-conference men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons, who win third-straight over the Bulldogs, improve to 7-3 on the year while sending the Bulldogs to 4-6.

Wingate’s Derek Watts (Winston-Salem, NC) scored the afternoon’s first goal just 39 seconds in before Pfeiffer responded with the next two grabbing a 2-1 lead after a quarter. Elliot Gilbert (Corning, NY) scored his lone goal on an assist from Justin Rose (Rochester, NY) while James Shepherd (St. John, NEW BRUNSWICK) tallied his first of two from Zac Clark (Corning, NY) on the back half of the opening quarter.

In the second, Steven Tilmon (Orlando, FL) made it three-in-a-row for the Falcons while the Bulldogs responded with a Tom Padden (Cary, NC) strike three minutes later. Pfeiffer would grab momentum for the rest of the day after Robert Hope (Peterborough, ONTARIO) assisted on Tucker Hammock’s (Marietta, GA) first of the day with 18 seconds left in the second.

The Falcons took more control in the third set of 15 minutes as Luke Gillespie (Vancouver, BRITISH COLUMBIA), Hammock and Shepherd would account for the only three goals scored in the quarter. After Hope threw in his only goal of the day, Watts would put home Wingate’s final goal with 10:03 to play in the fourth.

Pfeiffer closed out the contest with six-straight goals as Hammock started and finished that stretch while Rose hit back-to-back 53 seconds apart. Clark and Mitch Robertson (Whitby, ONTARIO) would also registered goals over the game’s final 9:30.

Hammock led the Falcons on the day with four goals and three assists while Rose and Shepherd each added two. Hope led all with a game-high five assists in addition to his goal. Watts led the Bulldogs with his two goals as Pfeiffer out-shot Wingate 40-28. The Bulldogs did hold a big advantage in the faceoff circle winning 16 of 21 attempts.
